Where to play?
There are a number of pubs and clubs around Belfast that will let new artists perform. Some nights there will be a few acts play. This is good try to go to these, if another band are organising an event or gig they may need a support act to fill the time. This networking is good and means more people see your music.
Laverys, Auntie Annies, the empire and Katy Dalys are a few that would allow new bands to play. The list is endless in Belfast depending on your music stylings.
How much should I charge?
Well it is good to make your first organised gig free if it is just friends and family, but put a bucket at the door and ask nicely for people to donate. You could be surprised at how many people will donate especially as it is a first gig.
If the first hurdle of your first gig went well organise another one, use any money that was donated to record songs and get a few of them onto CDs to sell at the next gig. Also provide information to your myspace or website. Your second gig should be when you start to charge maybe £3 at the door and try to get another support or new band to come and play with you. People don't mind paying under a fiver to see 2 bands.
